I also want to give you some heads up on what to do so you're prepared when things don't go as planned. Basically, if you have to wait more than 30 days to see a doctor at the VA, you can use this program. Additionally, if you live more than 40 miles away from the VA medical care facility or face travel burdens, you can also qualify. You can read more about that if you want. The 30-day requirement is super common for almost everybody, at least where I live. So, for my example, I'll show you how I did it the last time. This is how it works: I call the VA and tell them I need an appointment for my yearly physical or whatever. So, I call the VA and they tell me that the first available physical is on September 1st, and it's currently April 15th. Right off the bat, I realize that's way more than 30 days. So, instead of calling the lady back at the VA, I can just say that I'd like to use the Veterans Choice Program. I re-sign up for it, and she says okay and puts an authorization through to the Veterans Choice Program. She also cancels my appointment with the VA. It usually takes about four or...
